Came by the other day to pick up a bite to eat at lunch. I like roller grill hot dogs, but when I stopped in theirs were not ready. But they had some healthier options--sandwiches from Hillshire Farms, and some fresh fruit. Had a chicken salad sandwich and an apple. The sandwich was OK. The regular soft drink machine was working fine, though the slushie one was out of order. Gave them 3 stars for the helpful clerk. I learned something about roller grills--they cook very slowly. 20 minutes was not enough to be sure they were heated through.

Los Tres Ranchitos
We
had not been to this place before so we tried it for a take-out Mother's
Day dinner the other night. Called in the order and it was ready and
complete in 15 minutes, just as promised. I looked briefly
inside--there were socially distanced diners, and the place looks
appealing.
Wish the food was better. We ordered the Parrillada Dinner for two (it's pretty much a sample of most of what they have for fajitas), a fried shrimp dinner, some queso with chips and salsa, and sopapillas.
For starters, the queso is just melted cheese--no other ingredients or flavorings. But the chips were nice and fresh, so overall a good start.
The parrillada dinner looked like it might have been ready longer and someone else didn't want it. The carnitas were thoroughly dry. The steak was overcooked and tough. The shrimp were OK, but they were butterflied with the shell on so it was pretty difficult to get the shell off to use it in a tortilla. The chicken was decent, but pretty dry also.
There were a couple of high notes. The beef fajitas were excellent--cooked just right, tender and very tasty. If we'd ordered a beef and chicken fajita party pack I'd probably be happy. We had a mixed review on the fried shrimp--the batter was a flour batter, rather than the crispy batter we see more of now. I didn't like it much, but the person who ordered it did.
The fries and sopapillas wilted in the to-go boxes, which is what always happens so I don't hold it against them.
I give them a weak 3 because the service was very good--we got everything we ordered and the server did well, she even helped me carry the items to the car. Might be enough for me to give it another chance.

Walmart at Augusta Pines
Even now when you have to shop fast, it can be good to take something home from the grocery store deli to eat right away. Did this at the Walmart near Augusta Pines the other day. I
came in for some sundries and got a lunch from the deli to go. For the
money, it's solid value - I paid $4.47 for six competently fried chicken
wings and a couple of vegetable sides. Were they perfect? No. Were
they pretty good, better than many like it? Yes. The wings were crispy
and salty, even though they were in a steam table. The vegetables were
also pretty salty (I had corn and green beans), may have been there a
bit long, but ate just fine. The service was polite--we negotiated our
communication issues through masks without difficulty. Hats off again to people putting themselves at risk to bring us the products we need--the staff were
generally patient in this very trying time, and I appreciate their being
there.

Bridgestone 7-Eleven
This
store has rebranded and added a Laredo Taco Company. I love their food,
so I stopped in to try it. Unfortunately it seemed like it was the
tail end of the food service--very little left. I had two
tacos--carnitas and chicken fajita. The flavor was there, they executed
the recipe, but it was pretty dried out, especially the carnitas.
Laredo Taco Company is branching out into other packaged foods, including sandwiches and desserts. I got a piece of chocolate cake, a little pricey compared to the tacos but a generous portion. It wasn't bad for what it is, which is a highly preserved packaged chocolate cake.
The drink station worked fine, but the cup lids are just in stacks instead of the single-lid dispenser you find in some of these. Not so great in these times. But the people were friendly and helpful.
