Rosalie Rose Salvadoran Bistro

This food truck now has a five day a week location at the Plaza De Los Food Trucks on Gosling Road in Spring.  We stopped in the on a busy Saturday evening to try them out.  We got the Taquitos Dorados and the Yuca Con Chicharron, with a jamaica agua fresca to wash it down.  The Taquitos Dorados are deep fried taquitos filled with a mix of potatoes and chicken.  The Yuca Con Chicharron is roast pork with marinated vegetables over deep fried yuca.  I enjoy yuca as a change of pace from french fries, and they did a good job with it.  The breading had a crunch.  I like mine somewhat less thickly cut but that's a matter of taste.  Both the taquitos and the pork dish had a mild but pleasing flavor, nice and savory.  The Yuca Con Chicharron came with a very bright and spicy orange sauce that really picked it up.

The agua fresca comes in a little plastic bottle.  I love jamaica and this was very tasty.  They also have pastelitos and pupusas.  Prices were not bad for a food truck ($10 per entree) but portions are small, you won't want to share.  Worth a try as an example of what the newer Central and South American communities are interested in, and bringing to us.

Halal Chinese

This is a 3.5 rounded up.  We had a party of four on a moderately busy Saturday night with a couple of large parties.  We got the Veggie Sampler appetizer, and Goat Bhuna, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Khofta and Sesame Chicken for mains.  Had some garlic and regular naan to go with it.

The food was all around good.  The veggie sampler appetizer had samosas, paneers, and vegetable pakora, all of which were really well done.

I haven't had goat at very many places, and usually it's kind of tough, but not here.  The flavor of the Bhuna sauce was amazing.  If you like umami this is your dish.  They offer spiciness on a scale of 1-10--I had it at a lower spice level (4) so it's like the best brown gravy you've ever had.  One caveat--the dish advertises boneless lamb so I thought the goat would be boneless but it was on the bone.  Not unusual for Indian food but something to keep in mind.

The other dishes we ordered spicier (6).  The Chicken Khofta was OK, the dumpling texture was a little squishy but the sauce was good.  The Chicken Tikka and Sesame Chicken came out quite spicy, just as ordered.  The flavor of both dishes was marvelous, great depth.  Chicken Tikka was slightly dry but really not bad at all.

The food was great, but on this evening the service was glacial and that put a bit of a damper on the enjoyment.  The staff was very polite but pretty overwhelmed.  I guess that does not always happen but it would be good to be prepared to wait.

They have a single very large restroom which was clean and ready when I was there.  The furniture is nice and somewhat fancy but no decoration in the dining area.  The TVs were not playing anything so it was a good place to talk.  Can absolutely recommend it for the food.

Chipotle at Kuykendahl near Augusta Pines

Stopped in to this new Chipotle location recently.  I'm not normally a big fan of Chipotle, but I have to say that this time I liked what I got, which was a steak burrito bowl.  In the past I have found the chicken dry, but the steak was tender and juicy and the fixings complemented it well.

All the hygiene conditions were met--staff was friendly and service was quick.  The soda machine was working well.  The restrooms were clean and ready.  They have two identical non-gendered restrooms, so no gender-based waiting and plenty of room for customers in wheelchairs.  The decor is super basic--floors are polished concrete, and the interior is a uniform beige with no decoration.  Seating is comfortable enough but it's obviously intended for takeout.  This place got off to a somewhat rough start but I think they are fine now, if Chipotle's what you're craving and you're nearby it will do just fine.

Charley's Cheesesteaks and Wings

I am mostly familiar with Charley's from malls, but now we have one in our neighborhood.  Stopped in the other day to see what it was like.  The strip mall locations have wings as well as sandwiches, but I went with the sandwich.  Got a regular 3-cheese bacon cheesesteak with everything, loaded fries (more cheese and bacon), a soda and a chocolate shake.

The sandwiches are neatly made, with the steak, lettuce, tomatoes and pickle layered on.  I thoroughly enjoyed mine.  The fries were also good.  They are fine but not special on their own, but loaded they are even better.  The soda machine was working well when I came.  The chocolate shake is a very good one, on the thick side.  Hard but not impossible to get through a straw, you don't quite need a spoon.

The staff was still learning but very polite and enthusiastic.  The restroom was clean and ready.  They have two gendered restrooms with identical fixtures, which causes waiting that does not make sense to me.  But it's a fine thing to have this mall fixture in our neighborhood.
