This Don Tomate location has been teasing us for several months. They finally opened a little over a month ago. I stopped in recently for some Mexican food and snacks.
The store is very attractive and encourages you to buy. When I came in there were onions and chicken on the grill, making the place smell delicious. They have an informal but very nice eating area so you can certainly eat there if you want to, but I decided to pick up some groceries and take some tacos home with me. I got one carnita, one barbacoa and one beef taco on a combination of corn and flour tortillas. The tacos were overall wonderful. The tortillas are made fresh when you order so they are tender and delicious. The meats were mostly tender and tasty (the carnitas was a little firm, but quite good). I got green and red salsas with the tacos. The salsas pack a lot of flavor and are obviously homemade. Watch out for the salsa rojo, it's spicy for sure!
The taco and plate makings are all out in the steam table, but they don't have a menu posted so you just have to go by what looks good. They do not serve fountain drinks, but you can try out a soda you can't get at Kroger--I got a Columbiana kola soda and it was a great complement to the meal. They also have a great variety of Mexican baked goods.
The store is smaller so the overall selection is not as big as, say, La Michoacana, but it's a nice addition to the neighborhood and I wish them well.
